NEW OPPORTUNITIES

 

Female Arabic Tutors: The Sidab Women’s Sewing Group is in need of female Arabic tutors one evening a week. Please contact Layla at elsmitchell07@gmail.com.

 

Graphic Designer: Mr. Storer is looking for a student with graphic design and computer skills. His project will take approximately three hours and is an excellent creative opportunity. See Mr. Storer.

 

Swim Time Keepers(7-12) : The swim team is in need of timers on Thursday, March 18. Please contact Mrs. Frederickson if interested.

 

IGCSE Math Tutor: A grade 9 student is seeking a tutor for IGCSE math. Please contact Mrs. Frederickson.

 

MS Students; The PTA need volunteers to complete binding on the PTA Cookbook 2010. Students in grades 6,7 & 8 who are interested in this community and service project, please sign up outside Ms Anthony’s office.

 

The kennels in Qurm (Grades 6-12): near Sultan Center are in need of volunteers from 3.30-5.30pm during the weekdays to walk rescued dogs. Students in Grade 6-7 must be accompanied by an adult (one adult per student group). For more information, contact Reya at 95204228.

 

 Khoula Hospital (Grades 9-12): Volunteers are needed to visit injured migrant workers in the orthopedic unit at Khoula Hospital on Thursday mornings. Everyone can volunteer but Hindi speakers will be needed.  For more information see Mr. Rao in the science department.

 

Arabic tutor needed (10-12): A pupil in grade 6 is beginning to learn Arabic and would like an older student to tutor him one hour a week. See Ms Anthony for details. 

 

Elementary and Kindergarten Assistants (6-12): If you are interested in volunteering your break time or study periods in an elementary classroom, please see or email Ms Anthony. Several teachers are interested.

 

Lost and Found (6-12):  Ms Anthony is in need of a team of students to help organize the lost and found property box on a weekly basis. Please see or email her if interested.

 

Car Park Monitors (11-12):  We are in need of new car park monitors for this academic year.  Excellent action/service opportunity! If interested, see or email Ms Anthony.

 

Elementary Reading Support (8-12):  The elementary special needs teacher is looking for students to spend break times or study periods with upper level elementary students to support their reading skills.  If interested, contact Mary Ann in the elementary SLN room or mmink@abaoman.edu.om.

 

Elementary Library Assistants (6-12): Mrs Allum needs secondary students to assist her in the elementary library during breaks, after school and, for high school students, in your free periods. Sign up sheets are outside Ms Anthony and Mrs Frederickson’s offices.

 

Secondary Library Assistants (6-12): Ms Pontifex welcomes volunteers to assist her in the library at break times and after school. Please sign up on the sheets outside MS and HS counselor’s offices.

 

Assistant for Mrs. Frederickson (8-12):  Mrs. Frederickson is in need of more assistants during breaks, free periods or after school.  Please see her in SF5 to find out more details.

 

Assistant for Mrs. Harbord (6-12):  Mrs. Harbord, the DT teacher, is in need of several students to work as her assistant.  Please see her in the DT lab if interested.

 

CREATIVE OPPORTUNITIES for Grade 11-12 Students

NHI Junior Chef Course:  The National Hospitality Institute offers cooking courses for students up to age 19. Past and current students highly recommend this program. The course meets once a week for 3 hours over 6 weeks. Creative Arts: Sunita Rajvanshi offers creative art classes, particularly painting. She can be contacted at 96235022 or sunita.rajvanshi@gmail.com

 

Bead Making: Beads in Muscat offers classes jewelery and bead making. Classes are held on Monday evenings from 630-930 pm and cost 3 rial a session.  For more information, contact Azelene at 96528559.

 

CREATIVE/ACTION OPPORTUNITIES for Grade 11-12 Students

Belly Dancing:  Students can learn Egyptian-style belly dancing on Sunday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm at the Hyatt. The cost is around 4 rial a session. For eight or more students, the instructor can create a private class. Contact Tonya at 96306705 for more information.

 

Dance Lessons:  Harmony Music in Al Ghoubra offers sessions in Latin, ballroom and salsa dancing. The classes are Saturdays, 4-5pm, Mondays, 4-5pm, Thursdays, 7-8pm or Fridays, 7-8pm. Eight sessions costs 25 rial. Contact Louie at 95882335 for details.

 

Salsa Dancing:  Salsa dance lessons are offered at the Hyatt on Tuesday evenings from 730-830pm. Classes are 3.5 rial a class. Contact Issa at 99759754.

 

ACTION OPPORTUNITIES for Grade 11-12 Students

Bowling Lessons: One month or 8 hours of individual bowling lessons are offered for 30 rial. Contact Amgad at 95248722.
